Diploma in Music Management

The Music Management Diploma at the Art House Academy is tailored to educate a small cohort of individuals in becoming proficient music industry managers. By providing personalized instruction and guidance, students will develop the necessary practical and strategic abilities to cultivate their own management techniques. This program aims to equip students with a thorough understanding of the artistic creative process, along with the knowledge of how to effectively market, collaborate, and monetize their work in each creative cycle.

    The Program Description

    The Diploma in Music Management is based on both instructor-led teaching and practice-based teaching. The duration of the Program is of 48 weeks, divided into three 16-week terms. Each term comprises lectures and workshops, for a total of 576 theory hours, divided between the 3 terms of 191 hours each. Throughout the three terms students will go deeper into each of the subject areas so as to fundamentally increase their knowledge and skillset, and will add an additional 324 lab hours to arrive at a total of 900 clock hours.

    By the end of this program, students will have gained a deep understanding of the music industry, along with the practical skills needed to navigate this dynamic field. They will be prepared for various roles in music management, including artist management, marketing, A&R, tour management, and more. The program fosters creativity, critical thinking, and a strong foundation in business practices specific to the modern music industry.

    Lectures run from Monday to Thursday, in the evening. Classes are either 3 of 4 hours, typically the first half being teacher led, and the second half dedicated to new contents teaching and an additional teacher led hour focused on practical student activities, this aimed to verify students’ understanding of the contents covered in the first block.

    MBM 001 – Music Industry and Record Labels (80 Clock Hours)


    Music Industry and Record Labels teaches students the historical development of the music industry, from its early days to the present. The course focuses on the different roles and figures that coexist in the industry, such as record labels, publishers, managers, and artists, and why they are essential for the industry’s growth. Students will gain a clear understanding of the music business ecosystem and learn how the industry has evolved over time. This course is essential for those interested in pursuing a career in the music industry.

    ARS 002 – Artists and Relations I (48 Clock Hours)


    Artists and Relations I teaches students the history of Music and Appreciation so that the students can develop the ability to understand, and critically evaluate different genres of music. This involves developing an understanding of the musical elements such as rhythm, melody, and harmony, as well as the cultural and historical context in which the music was created. The course additionally encompasses an examination of the various activities encompassed in the creation, manufacturing, distribution, and promotion of a recorded music product.

    AEF 003 – Music Industry Finance I (32 Clock Hours)


    Music Industry Finance I teaches students the fundamentals of financial management in the music industry. The course covers topics such as budgeting, financial reporting, and the taxation system in the United States. Students will learn how to create and present different types of budgets, including tour budgets, recording budgets, and marketing budgets.

    AEM 004 – Music Industry Marketing I (32 Clock Hours)


    In Music Industry Marketing II teaches students how to create and promote a successful brand within the music industry. The course emphasizes market analysis techniques to identify target audiences and market trends. Through this knowledge, students will develop and implement effective marketing techniques to influence consumer behavior. Students will learn how to build their brand, increase their fan base and revenue, and achieve sustainable success in the music industry.

    MBM 005 – Music Industry Contracts I (80 Clock Hours)


    Contracts I is a course that teaches students about the various contracts involved in the music industry, with a focus on recording contracts, production contracts, featured artists contracts, NDAs, COAs, etc.

    ARS 006 – Artists and Relations II (48 Clock Hours)


    Artists and Relations II teaches students a practical understanding of how A&Rs operate in the music industry. The course covers topics such as finding the perfect song, building relationships with artists and producers, and connecting with the right networks to ensure a successful release. Students will learn how to identify promising artists, negotiate contracts, and develop a strategy for promoting new releases. This course is essential for those interested in pursuing a career in A&R and those looking to develop their skills in artist management and music promotion.

    AEF 007 – Music Industry Finance II (32 Clock Hours)


    Music Industry Finance II teaches students on the various means of generating royalties in the music industry. This includes mechanical royalties, which are paid for the reproduction of copyrighted music; performing royalties, which are paid for the public performance of copyrighted music; production royalties, which are paid for the use of copyrighted music in films, commercials, and other media; and publishing royalties, which are paid to the copyright owner for the use of the underlying musical composition.

    AEM 008 – Music Industry Marketing II (32 Clock Hours)


    Music Industry Marketing I teaches students the basic principles and practices of marketing in the music industry. The course covers topics such as traditional marketing and digital marketing, their differences, and their application in the current entertainment marketing landscape. Students will learn how to develop effective marketing strategies through marketing plans, analyze market trends, and promote music products and events to reach target audiences.

    PSN 009 – Management Skills (32 Clock Hours)


    Management Skills teaches students how to effectively communicate ideas and information to an audience through a variety of mediums such as speeches, slides, and demonstrations. This course emphasizes in the importance of learning how to negotiate with the different parties involved in the music industry (record companies, venues, digital platforms and brands).

    MBM 010 – Music Industry Contracts II (80 Clock Hours)


    Contracts II is a course that teaches students about the various contracts involved in the music industry, with a focus on intellectual property ownership and usage. The course covers the legal principles behind licensing and publishing agreements, as well as the different methods of addressing intellectual property rights in contracts. Students will learn how to negotiate, draft, and interpret music industry contracts, with a particular emphasis on licensing and publishing agreements. This course is essential for students looking to build a career in the music industry.

    AEF 011 – Finance III (48 Clock Hours)


    Finance III teaches students the financial management for non-profit organizations. Students will learn how to create budgets and present financial reports for non-profit 501(c)3 organizations. The course also covers topics such as philanthropy and the foreign taxation system, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of financial management in the non-profit sector.

    AEM 012 – Music Industry Marketing III (32 Clock Hours)


    Music Industry Marketing III teaches students how to create and execute successful release strategies in the music industry. The course covers topics such as basic website development, newsletter creation, detailed analytics, brand promotion, and partnership building. Students will learn how to analyze market trends, develop marketing plans, and leverage social media to promote music releases. This course is essential for those looking to develop their skills in music marketing and promotion, and for those interested in pursuing a career in the music industry.

    MIP 013 – Strategic Planning and Music Industry Project (324 Clock Hours)


    Strategic Planning and Music Industry Project is where students connects the theoretical knowledge they have gained in the other courses and apply it to existing artists. They will be creating marketing plans, business plans, release plans as well as brand bibles, EPKs and PR pitches. This course also teaches you how to create a strategy around artists and their releases.
